The Lion Brewery was successful from it's founding in 1850 until it's dissolution in 1941.

The expansive former brewery was destroyed and 3,000 tons of steel were recycled for the war effort in 1944. After the war, veterans formed a softball league that played every Sunday on the cinder lot that remained.
