In 1913 Houston's Magnolia Brewery won Gran Prix at the World's Fair in Ghent Belgium. Beating out nearly 5,000 other entries from around the world. The recipe was later renamed Grand Prize Lager in commemoration. For decades the Magnolia Brewery was the largest beer maker south of Milwaukee but would not survive Prohibition.
