New York's Hell Gate Brewery bottle opener
George Ehret immigrated from his native Germany and founded what would become the largest brewery in the United States. Naming his brewery for Hell Gate, the nearby narrow and dangerous strait on the East River, Ehret amassed a fortune. His 40 million dollar estate was seized by the US government when an ill-timed trip found him stuck in Germany at the outbreak of World War I. Upon his harrowing return his loyalties were confirmed and his estate returned in full. After his death his family was eventually forced to sell the brewery to competitors.
